A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal is even sexier and more intriguing than the first。 And Evren continues to capture my entire heart with his swoony dark possession and his epically dirty mouth。 Holly Renee has brought the spice to fantasy!I’ll admit, this story went in a direction that I didn't quite anticipate。 After we have a volatile beginning as Adara is dealing with Evren misleading her and being trapped now in another new kingdom full of palace drama, intrigue, and secrets, Holly almost scales it entirely back。 It’s quieter, slower, almost peaceful in places, as Adara starts to find security in the last place she expected it, trying to reconcile the longing in her heart with the distrust and betrayal she feels。 The Blood Court isn’t at all what she anticipated, and Holly really doubles down on that theme- Adara is uncovering that a lot of what she assumed about herself, her magic, her mate, and his world is not quite true。 It’s really a tale of self-discovery and actualization- Adara is coming into her powers in more ways than one。 Not only is she exploring her magic but she’s also exploring her destiny and heart- ALL incredibly complicated and confusing。 Adara waffles - a lot- because she quickly learns that she has more agency in her own journey than she ever thought, and that requires recalibrating。 Her plan and beliefs are unsettled- so now what? What she does discover, though, is that being mated to Evren is not quite like the shackles of being mated to Gavril。 But can Evren earn her trust when he’s clearly been keeping secrets? This story does feel markedly different in a lot of ways- there’s a bit more fun in it, a lot more spice, and the drama is scaled back quite a bit。 That makes for some really good character development as we see Adara evolve- let go of her biases, rethink her agenda, struggle to open her heart。 She’s somehow both more fierce and more vulnerable, even if she’s still so very stubborn LOL。 But who REALLy shines in this book is Evren- ironic since we spend a good chunk of the story with him elsewhere, but I loved seeing him so openly push for Adara, getting to see him pivot from the petulant bastard prince to the stoic and responsible leader of his people。 We realize just how much he has on his shoulders- and how up for the task he is。 Not to mention, man is still hot AF and his naughty times with Adara are hella sexy。 Possessive caveman with superpowers。 Yum。 Their connection is the real focus of this story- the tension, the angst, the second guessing and push-pull。 Their dynamic is clearly more than mate bond, there is real love here- but they have so much to overcome between them AND around them。 And both are in new contexts that mean they almost have to relearn each other。We also get some great secondary characters that add a little bit to this word- with some scene stealing angst of their own in the mix。 And while we dont’ get a lot of answers and we spend much of our story waiting for the shoe to drop, the shoe in fact DOES drop。 And it drops hard。 The last 25% of this book has a breakneck pace and is everything I wanted。 It’s chaos and magical and heartbreaking and heartstopping and devastating and such a poetic parallel。 It sets us up for what I’m sure will be a really epic finale- and I can’t wait! 。。。more

After this book I can safely say I'm still blown away by this new series Holly Renee has created。 Still reeling from Evren's betrayal, Adara is forced to face her feelings。 Her growth in this book is the character development I was hoping for but doesn't always get delivered in other books。 This woman stepped into her own with a fierceness。 Evren was easy to fall in love with in the first book, but this one somehow he is impossibly even better。 The love he has for Adara is unmatched and so heart After this book I can safely say I'm still blown away by this new series Holly Renee has created。 Still reeling from Evren's betrayal, Adara is forced to face her feelings。 Her growth in this book is the character development I was hoping for but doesn't always get delivered in other books。 This woman stepped into her own with a fierceness。 Evren was easy to fall in love with in the first book, but this one somehow he is impossibly even better。 The love he has for Adara is unmatched and so heartwarming。 There's still some great steamy scenes but still has more than romance。 There's some fantastic secondary characters I defintelu wouldn't mind reading about。。。looking at you Thalia! Omg! This series is amazing。 Adara is coming to terms about what Evren after that last cliffhanger。 In the blood kingdom she is finding answers but is also left with so many more questions。 This book does leave off on a major cliffhanger that I need answers for。 I need book three。 This is a must read!

We pick up where we left off in AKOSAS, the truth being revealed about Evren leaving us wondering if any of it was even real。 Adara is heartbroken and angry upon finding out who Evren really is while feeling like a pawn yet again to another man looking to gain full power from the Starblessed, But Evren insists that the feelings are definitely real and makes his intentions very clear and refuses to give up without a fight。 Adara is trying so hard to stay strong and fight the bond she shares with We pick up where we left off in AKOSAS, the truth being revealed about Evren leaving us wondering if any of it was even real。 Adara is heartbroken and angry upon finding out who Evren really is while feeling like a pawn yet again to another man looking to gain full power from the Starblessed, But Evren insists that the feelings are definitely real and makes his intentions very clear and refuses to give up without a fight。 Adara is trying so hard to stay strong and fight the bond she shares with her Evren, her mate。。 which is easier said than done。 Upon arriving at the Blood Kingdom things are very different from the terrifying tales Adara was told growing up。。 she even starts to feel like she actually belongs somewhere but as she starts to get comfortable a new threat arises and Holly yet again smashes our heart to pieces。 The chemistry between the two of them is explosive and Evren had me swooning the entire time。 。。。more

This second book of this series is one I was dying to read because the first book left us hanging in what felt like a monumental moment and I needed to know my Evren wasn’t evil。 We pick up where our Star blessed is furious with Evren and she is fighting this war inside herself determined to hate him yet craving his touch。 Not going to lie most of this book Adara irritated me because she constantly was back and forth with Evren and it was distracting, 'I need him, I can’t stand him' 'I crave him This second book of this series is one I was dying to read because the first book left us hanging in what felt like a monumental moment and I needed to know my Evren wasn’t evil。 We pick up where our Star blessed is furious with Evren and she is fighting this war inside herself determined to hate him yet craving his touch。 Not going to lie most of this book Adara irritated me because she constantly was back and forth with Evren and it was distracting, 'I need him, I can’t stand him' 'I crave him, I know I should resist him because all he does is shower me with attention and s3x' 'I want him he’s my mate, but he betrayed me to keep me safe and alive。' I loved she wanted to grow stronger, be independent, and make her own decisions (which everyone should be able to do) but what really got me was Evren constantly showed her he put her first or was protecting a kingdom of people she constantly judged off lies she was raised to believe。 Even his friends and people of his kingdom kept showing her how amazing he is, yet Adara all the way through and even towards the end kept pushing him away and tortured him with her fickleness。 She showed strength, yet her determination to push Evren, her mate (which is rare and an innate thing that happens) away showed immaturity to me especially when she has proof how great he is and not like his brother at all。 Other than that, I loved the storyline and yes, the cliffhanger left me speechless, but I am excited to see where the story of their magic and the mates will go。 Also, the introduction of the new characters really sealed the deal for me (other than Evern's mouth because holy h3ll talk about hottttt) because they became a family and had a bond that was unbreakable。 This story and emotions will frustrate you, but it will also let you take this journey and fall in love with the characters。 。。。more

Negatives: The entirety of this book was just my biggest pet peeves on repeat。 Inconsequential fighting between main characters, a predictable cliff hanger, and no real communication between characters to build a more believable bond besides a physical one。Positives: Evren is hot。 The spice is nice。

I loved the next installment of Evren and Adara’s story。Evren takes Adara to his home and there, she learns that many of her preconceptions about Vampyres are horribly wrong。She discovers that she is wrong about many things, and has difficulty knowing who and what to trust。 Can she move past Evren’s betrayals and her own deep seated mistrust, or will she become another Starblessed who has been discarded?Overall, I loved this book。I thought it moved the story along, it was well paced, and I read I loved the next installment of Evren and Adara’s story。Evren takes Adara to his home and there, she learns that many of her preconceptions about Vampyres are horribly wrong。She discovers that she is wrong about many things, and has difficulty knowing who and what to trust。 Can she move past Evren’s betrayals and her own deep seated mistrust, or will she become another Starblessed who has been discarded?Overall, I loved this book。I thought it moved the story along, it was well paced, and I read it super quickly。I did feel that the book was short?? I was sucked into the storyline from the first page and it never faltered。 There were no points where I felt the plot was too slow or unnecessary。 Ever since the end of A King ⭐️ 5/5🌶️ 2/5First of all, thank you to the author, Holly Renee, for kindly giving me a copy of the ARC! I tore through A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows and was absolutely desperate for book 2。 A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal did not disappoint and I absolutely devoured it。 Holly has truly outdone herself again with this one! I was sucked into the storyline from the first page and it never faltered。 There were no points where I felt the plot was too slow or unnecessary。 Ever since the end of A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows, I've been wanting to grab Adara by the shoulders and scream at her! While I understand her caution and reason for being so hesitant with those around her, I still was dying for some resolution between her and Evren! I said in the first book, and I'll say it again here - Holly is some sort of wizard with the way she's mastered the slowburn in this series。 Somehow she was able to balance a slowburn romance between Adara and Evren in book 1 while they were still getting hot and heavy with each other every time they got the chance。 And somehow, she's managed to get them into an enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies situation where the slowburn starts all over again。 And let me tell you - it was just as delicious as book 1。 While Adara has a classic case of the miscommunication trope going on, I loved seeing her slowly sway back and forth until we finally got some sweet satisfaction。Evren is just as charming and clever as in book 1, and the mouth on that man? Stunning。 Amazing。 10/10, would recommend to a friend。 Not only was this book a slowburn for Adara and her sexual tension with Evren, but it was a slowburn for me to finally get some Evren scenes!!!! I will take as many as I can get at this point - he has me in an actual chokehold。 Overall, this was a solid 5 star read for me all the way through the book, from start to finish。 Now I'm absolutely DYING for book 3, which doesn't come out until March。 Can someone just wake me up when the date finally rolls around? Or at least wake me up when Holly picks her ARC team? That would be great, thanks! 。。。more

Unique

I was really looking forward to this book, but have been sadly disappointed in Adara’s character development。 Adara was such a strong character in book 1, and I hoped to see her struggle with controlling her magic, realizing the blood kingdom is not what she was lead to believe and of course, forgiving Evren。 But her flip flopping gave me whiplash。 I’m also disappointed that in such a short book, so much focus was placed on the smutty scenes that it took away greatly from the story development。 I was really looking forward to this book, but have been sadly disappointed in Adara’s character development。 Adara was such a strong character in book 1, and I hoped to see her struggle with controlling her magic, realizing the blood kingdom is not what she was lead to believe and of course, forgiving Evren。 But her flip flopping gave me whiplash。 I’m also disappointed that in such a short book, so much focus was placed on the smutty scenes that it took away greatly from the story development。 Otherwise, I’m still invested in this Adara and Evren story to save the kingdoms。 。。。more
